Yellowstone Pt. 2
Well, turns out the government shutdown did happen, but thankfully, we were still able to get into Yellowstone and explore.
We planned ahead and bought our goodies the day before because we were concerned all of the Visitor Centers would be closed, and we were right.
Edley picked out Foxy and she was Edley’s constant companion and went on all the hikes we would allow.
Other than that, we were not personally affected at the park.
We started the second part of our stay admiring the stunning Old Faithful Inn.
Justin and I were both in awe of the artistry in the architecture, while the kids fell in love with the gift shop…of course.
Justin and I threatened the kids and said we’d leave them in the camper and spend the night here…They’d be fine, right???
Over the next few days, we ventured all around.
More geysers…More pools…
We made our way to the canyon, saw the Upper and Lower Falls, and learned where Yellowstone earned its name.
We visited Yellowstone Lake and played in the volcanic sand (obsidian!!! Embry’s favorite!)
At Yellowstone River, poor Avett got stuck in the mud and semi-freaked out. Good thing his sisters rescued him and his shoe without problem, though they did find it quite hilarious. Nothing that a good dip in the river couldn’t fix.
The best part? We got to see more animals!
Justin went to Hayden Prairie before dawn and saw a grizzly bear and a wolf! The only wolf sighting for our family this trip.
The rest of us saw a fox crossing the street, a coyote pouncing on something in tall grass, several more grizzly bears (possibly the same one twice), loads of elk and bison, and eagles.
Avett even witnessed an eagle scooping a fish out of a river while the rest of us got to watch the eagle eat the fish on the bank!
I will admit though that we were a little natured out after a bit. I didn’t know that was possible, but it is. So we took some downtime and just hung out around the campground. This might have been the kids’ favorite part.
Or maybe the climbing on Glacier Boulder was their favorite?
Whatever part was their favorite, I do know that Yellowstone was a success and we loved our time there!
And yes, Edley did hike most of Yellowstone in her pajamas with her new fox. Wouldn’t you if you could?
