And We’re Off…
Another school year is in the books and that means we’re hitting the road again!
I had hoped we could avoid the hecticness of last year’s road trip by waiting to leave a little bit after school got and avoid the obstacle course that is the last week of school, but no.
We did at least wait a whole 24 hours…
But man did we pack a lot into this last week…planning, packing, hosting a birthday party for our 10yo and 30 of her friends in our backyard, finding a sitter, cleaning, more cleaning, kindergarten graduation, soccer awards ceremony, class award parties, building a chicken coop, and putting in a new fence for the dogs so the sitter we did find didn’t have to chase our Great Pyrenees all over the neighborhood.
You know, all the last minute things you should have done weeks before but didn’t.
Speaking of. Want to see the coop?
It’s not finished yet, but it should keep our new batch of chickens safe while we’re gone…
Didn’t Justin do a great job on the coop?
Despite a packed week, we let the kids get their energy out at their class swim parties and picked them up in the camper, ready to hit the road!
Is this how other families travel or are we just that insane?
Fortunately I saw these stowaways trying to sneak on!
So where are we going this time?
Ever since we got home from our epic road trip to Colorado, we’ve been dreaming of where we’d like to go next.
Okay, actually, Justin’s been dreaming and I’m been going along for the ride. I’m all about it, but I let him dream and then wait to find out where we’re going.
I’m more of the “Just tell me where we’re going and I’ll get us ready” kind of person.
We make a good team like that.
So this year, we talked about visiting my brother in New Hampshire, where he’s lived for several years and we’ve only seen pictures.
Time to see the town in real life!
But you know we can’t keep it that simple.
So we added a few things.
The hard part of going through Virginia up to Maine is where to draw the line?
Every state has so much to see and places to visit.
How do we decide what to see and what to skip?
This is what we came up with. It’s going to be quick overview stops and no deep diving, but we’ll at least get the feel of several cities…
Washington DC
New York City
Boston
New Hampshire
Acadia National Forest (Maine)
Hershey, PA
How does that look?
Quick stop at Natural Bridge State Park in Virginia to stretch our legs
Like I said, it’s going to be a quick trip, but we can’t wait to visit these places with our kids and experience them together.
More importantly, we’re looking forward to connecting in new ways and making memories that will last a lifetime.
Here’s to another exciting adventure for The Collett Crew!
